GO JIU BUJITSU – MAXIMS AND CODE OF ETHICS
(Maxim = a concisely expressed principle or rule of conduct; Ethics = standards of behavior/conduct and moral judgment)
#1 – RESPECT - Go Jiu Bujitsu begins with respect, and it ends with respect.
Respect is maintaining within myself, and treating others with honor, courtesy, special consideration and high value via my thoughts, words and actions. I practice respect everyday toward myself, my parents, my family, my teachers (school and dojo), my classmates, my friends and law enforcement officers, so that treating everyone with respect is what I do.
#2 – CHARACTER - I train in Go Jiu Bujitsu seeking perfection of my character.
By my hard work, sweat, bumps & bruises, challenges, setbacks and achievements, I learn more about myself and continually improve my pattern of behavior. Self-discipline, self-confidence, humility, honor, courtesy, responsibility, love, compassion, charity, honesty and moral strength are the foundation for who I am.
#3 – SELF-CONTROL - I only use martial arts techniques for self-defense.
I only use my skills to defend myself, my family, my friends, as well as the innocent and defenseless from physical violence. We accept the responsibility of our martial art skills and strive to resolve all conflicts through non-violence. If unavoidable, I only use my skills to the extent necessary under the circumstances.
#4 – ETIQUETTE - I show respect to all other martial arts and martial artists.
All martial arts are only as good as their practitioners, and being a good martial artist begins and ends with respect. Seek harmony, friendship and mutual growth from your interactions with other martial artists. As a representative of Go Jiu Bujitsu, I want my conduct to always reflect positively upon my art.
#5 – WELL-BEING - I use Go Jiu Bujitsu to improve and maintain my physical health, my spirit, my emotions and my overall well-being.
My martial arts’ training is not just karate or self-defense. All aspects of my physical, mental and spiritual being are benefited and improved by my commitment to and perseverance in training.
#6 – SAFETY - I train with self-control, and have patience, appreciation and safety foremost in mind when working with others.
Being aware that martial arts are physically cooperative, challenging, sometimes competitive and potentially dangerous, my training partners’ and my safety comes first. My exercise of self-control is required.
#7 – DUTY - I share with others, especially children, the techniques, philosophies and intangible benefits of Go Jiu Bujitsu for their benefit and the benefit of my community.
The longer I train, the more I see the benefits of training in Go Jiu Bujitsu. It is my responsibility and duty to Go Jiu Bujitsu and my community to share this knowledge, as well as the experience with others, especially children for the betterment of all.
#8 – ATTITUDE - My attitude is the key to the altitude and successes I will reach in Go Jiu Bujitsu and life.
The attitude of an airplane is its’ angle of rise or decent in relationship to the horizon. My own personal attitude is a key factor in all I do – will I crash, will I taxi, or with positive attitude, will I fly and soar above the eagles? Of course, I strive for a positive attitude everyday in all I do!
